What is Fiesta Bowl IV therapy?

It is a one liter IV drip given by a registered nurse. They come to your hotel, rental, or home during bowl week. The most booked bags are the Hangover IV ($295) and the Jet Lag IV ($205). Both have fluids, vitamins, and electrolytes. The Hangover IV adds medicine for nausea and headache. Each drip takes about 45 to 60 minutes.

Built for bowl week

A playoff bowl game is a four day trip. Fans land Monday or Tuesday. They hit Westgate the night before the game. Game day starts at the tailgate. It ends at a bar at 2 am. Then it is New Year’s Eve.

Your body takes a beating. The flight dries you out. The sun is out all day at the tailgate. The night is cold by kickoff. The beer never stops. By the morning of December 31, most fans are running on empty.

A nurse comes to your hotel room, your rental, or your house. You get a full liter of fluids, vitamins, and the medicine you need. You feel better in about an hour. Then you go celebrate again.

What Fiesta Bowl week does to your body

The flight from a cold city

Most fans fly in from snow. The cabin air is dry. You land in the desert, where the air is even drier. Add a time change and you start the week tired.

All day at the Westgate tailgate

The tailgate starts in the morning. You stand in the sun for hours. You eat a lot of meat and salt. You drink more than you planned. You lose water all day and do not feel it until later.

Cold December nights

Phoenix is sunny and mild in the day. Once the sun sets in December, it gets cold fast. You went out in a T shirt. Now you are shivering in the stands. Your body burns energy just to stay warm.

Four hours of yelling

A playoff game runs three to four hours. You stand the whole time. You yell until your throat is raw. You forget to drink water. Your legs and back feel it the next morning.

New Year’s Eve the next night

The game is December 30. New Year’s Eve is December 31. Two of the biggest nights of the year, back to back. There is no time to sleep it off.

Why water alone will not fix it

When you are dry and hungover, your stomach is slow. Water sits there. Only a small part gets to your blood right away. An IV skips the stomach. It goes right to work.
