With your surgeon’s okay

Post-Surgery Recovery IV

Fluids, comfort, and energy while you heal.

Medically cleared by Mellisa Kerchief, NP, our Medical Director

With your surgeon’s okay. You had surgery. You are sore, dry, and worn out. A registered nurse comes to your home, hotel, or recovery house. We need written clearance from your surgeon before we book. Then we bring the drip your surgeon okays.

  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea from pain pills
  • Low energy
  • Soreness

One of three drips, the one your surgeon okays: the Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant IV ($295 studio, $325 at your door), the Athletic Performance IV ($255, $285) or the Hydrate IV ($150).

What is IV therapy after surgery?

IV therapy after surgery is a drip of fluids and vitamins. A nurse gives it at home. We use one of three bags. The Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant IV for soreness and swelling. The Athletic Performance IV for amino acids and energy. Or the Hydrate IV for people who only need fluids. Each takes 45 to 60 minutes. Prices run $150 to $325. Your surgeon must clear it first. We support hydration, comfort, and energy while you heal.

Talk to your surgeon first

We work alongside your surgeon. Never instead of one. Your surgeon knows your body, your surgery, and your risks. We do not.

  • We require written clearance. A short note or a message from your surgeon’s office is enough. It should say IV fluids are okay for you and when.
  • Send it before you book. Text or email it to us. Our nurse practitioner reviews it. Then we book.
  • Some surgeons say no to anti inflammatory medicine. It can affect bleeding and healing after some surgeries. If your surgeon says no, we leave it out. Or we use the Hydrate IV.
  • We do not touch your incision. Your nurse does not change dressings or care for your wound. That is your surgeon’s job.
  • We do not replace your follow up visits. Keep every appointment with your surgeon.

If you are not sure who to ask, call your surgeon’s office. Their nurse can send us a quick note.

Signs you could use fluids after surgery

Ask your surgeon about these. If they clear it, we can help.

  • Your mouth is dry and you cannot drink enough.
  • You feel dizzy or lightheaded when you stand.
  • Pain pills make you sick to your stomach.
  • You have had no appetite for days.
  • You feel drained and foggy.
  • You have a headache that will not quit.
  • You are sore all over, not only at the surgery site.
  • You are recovering alone in a hotel or rental.
  • You want to feel well enough to do your walking and your exercises.
  • Your surgeon has said IV fluids are fine for you.

How fast does it work?

The fluids work fast. Most people feel less dizzy and less dry within 30 minutes. If the bag has anti inflammatory medicine, soreness eases within the hour. The energy from the B vitamins and amino acids builds through the day.

Here is the honest part. The drip does not make you heal faster. Healing takes the time it takes. What the drip does is support hydration, comfort, and energy while you heal. That makes it easier to eat, rest, and do the walking your surgeon wants.

Here is why it beats trying to drink. After surgery, your stomach is often upset. An IV skips your stomach. The full liter goes right into your blood.

Safety first

Is IV therapy after surgery safe?

Yes, when your surgeon clears it, a nurse gives it, and a provider signs off. That is how we do it every time.

  • A registered nurse gives every IV.
  • Our nurse practitioner reviews your surgeon’s note and every protocol.
  • Sterile, single use supplies.
  • We check your temperature and vitals before we start.
  • We leave out anything your surgeon does not want.
  • We ask about your health and your medicines first.

Who should skip it or ask first: people with heart failure or kidney disease. Extra fluid can be a problem for them. People with bleeding problems or stomach ulcers should not get the anti inflammatory medicine. Anyone who is pregnant should have their OB’s okay. Anyone with a known allergy to any item in the bag.

This is a wellness service. We support hydration, comfort, and energy while you heal. We do not replace your surgeon’s care. Read more about IV safety.

Call your surgeon or 911 instead

Some problems after surgery need a doctor right away. Skip the IV and get help if you have any of these.

  • A fever
  • Redness, warmth, or drainage at the incision
  • Calf pain or swelling in one leg
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heavy bleeding

Chest pain, shortness of breath, and heavy bleeding mean call 911. For the others, call your surgeon’s office right away.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Still wondering? Text us or call (480) 674-8268.

Do I need my surgeon’s clearance?

Yes. We require written clearance from your surgeon before we book. Our nurse practitioner reviews it first.

How soon after surgery can I get an IV?

Your surgeon decides. Many surgeons are fine with fluids after the first day or two. We follow what your note says.

Can I get it after a BBL or a tummy tuck?

Yes, with your surgeon’s okay. Our nurses work around your position. Many cosmetic surgery clients get their drip lying on their side or stomach.

Will it help me heal faster?

No, and we will not tell you it does. It supports hydration, comfort, and energy while you heal. That helps you eat, rest, and move the way your surgeon wants.

Why would my surgeon say no to anti inflammatory medicine?

It can affect bleeding and healing after some surgeries. If your surgeon says no, we leave it out. The Hydrate IV and the Athletic IV have none.

My pain pills make me sick. Can you help?

Yes, with your surgeon’s okay. Add anti nausea medicine to any bag. Fluids help with the nausea too.

Can I get it after knee surgery?

Yes, with your surgeon’s clearance. Many knee, hip, and shoulder patients book the Hydrate IV at home. Others pick the Athletic IV.

Can I book for my mom or my husband?

Yes. Send us the surgeon’s note and the address. The patient does the short video call with our nurse practitioner.

Does insurance pay for it?

No. Most HSA and FSA cards work. We take all major cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

How often can I get one?

That depends on your surgeon’s note. Some people get one drip. Others get one every few days for the first week.

Feel better. Look better. Live better.
